0-025 European Norway spruce (Picea abies) was widely planted by early settlers from the Old World, where it is the traditional Christmas tree. It is also a traditional cemetery tree, and many more can be found in the older part of Oak Ridge. It is one of the largest spruce species, and can attain great size and age on favorable sites. There is another a few steps to the northwest, and some of those in the northeastern part of Oak Ridge date back to the original planting in 1862.
